This session, catered to IBCLCs and others working in the lactation space, will delve into the latest research on colostrum harvesting’s efficacy in improving breastfeeding outcomes. We’ll analyse current evidence, identify effective expression and collection methods, and equip you with tools for formulating evidence-based prenatal support protocols for optimal colostrum harvesting.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:  

  1. Identify at least three key findings from research studies on colostrum harvesting.
  2. Understand colostrum harvesting techniques and suggest equipment needed.
  3. Discuss three benefits to colostrum harvesting.

Annabelle Mackenzie, M.A. (Cantab), IBCLC

Annabelle is of British, French and Basque origins and she has served as the hospital Lactation Consultant, IBCLC® in the OBGYN clinic of the United States Air Force 48 MDG since 2018.

Prior to this, she was the UNICEF Baby Friendly lead, for Suffolk County Council Health and Children’s Centres (UK), and has worked and volunteered in breastfeeding in the UK and France for 15 years.

Annabelle has served in a voluntary capacity on the IBLCE® Board of Directors for the past 6 years, and was Chair of the Board in 2021-22; served on various committees for IBLCE. She has also volunteered on DHA lactation working groups within the USAF.
